Now this is interesting. According to French outlet RMC Sport, Mesut Ozil is petitioning Arsenal to sign Julian Draxler when he inevitably leaves Wolfsburg in January. And with Ozil stalling on signing a new deal, he presumably has the ear of the decision-makers at the Emirates.
What’s this got to do with French outlet RMC Sport, you may be asking. Well, they claim that PSG are also interested in Draxler and the biggest threat is Arsenal, and specifically Ozil’s vested interest in the Gunners signing his German teammate.
Does he really think Draxler is better than Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain? He’s wanted by European superpowers, you know.
ANOTHER RUMOR
MAN CITY COULD MOVE FOR VAN DIJK
The general consensus is that Pep Guardiola wants to wait until the summer to make reinforcements to his Manchester City squad, especially as Gabriel Jesus is already on his way, but the Daily Telegraph have a slighhtly different theory; they believe more defensive problems could mean a massive move for Virgil van Dijk.
The Telegraph are claiming that Southampton want £50m for the Dutchman, but we suspect that a January switch would cost much more, with the Saints holding all the cards. When you have one of the Premier League’s best defenders, you can pretty much name your price.
WHAT WILL CHELSEA DO WITH OSCAR MONEY?
Buy Marco Verratti, according to the Mail. And that sounds like a fine plan to us. Why PSG would sell him in January ahead of a Champions League last-16 clash with Barcelona is another matter, mind you. If Chelsea think they can get the Italian for less than £40m (as the Mail claim) when they have received over £50m for Oscar, then they may well be living in la-la land.
But ‘insiders have said that Chelsea are confident they can get Verratti, despite the 24-year-old’s deal in France running until 2021’, and when have ‘insiders’ ever been wrong?
The Times have a different idea and that different idea is Monaco’s 22-year-old France Under-21 midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko. He would not be available until the summer but could cost £40m because Monaco really do not sell on the cheap.
