Football Skills Training Touch, Turn, and Play

Minutes: 12 minutes
Players: 12 to 18
Objective: To receive and turn the ball with the first touch.
Setup: Split the team into three equal groups of four to six players each. Two groups combine to form a circle about 30 yards in diameter. The players (servers) forming the perimeter of the circle each have a ball. Players in the third group position themselves within the circle (without balls).
Procedure: Beginning at your command, players stationed within the circle move toward the perimeter to receive passes from the servers. Players receive and turn the ball with their first touch, then play it to a server who is without a ball. After turning and passing the ball, the middle player immediately checks toward another server to receive another ball. Players continue to receive, turn, and pass for as many repetitions as possible in two minutes, after which the players from one of the server groups move into the middle of the circle. The original middle group then positions on the perimeter as servers. Play several two-minute rounds with a different group in the middle for each round.
Scoring: Complete as many repetitions as you can in two minutes.
Practice tips: Players must check hard toward a server in order to receive and turn in one fluid motion. Passes need to be accurate and properly weighted.
