Soccer Trainning Drills Total Team Possession

Minutes: 15
Players: 15 to 21 (2 teams of 6 to 9; 3 neutral players)
Objective: To develop large-group passing combinations.
Setup: Play on half a regulation field. Designate three players to be neutral, and organize remaining players into two teams of equal number. Use colored vests to differentiate the two teams and the neutral players. You'll need at least one soccer ball, but it's better to have more. Award one team possession of the ball to begin.
Procedure: The team with the ball tries to keep the ball away from its opponents. Neutral players combine with the team in possession to create a three-player advantage for the attacking team. Players, including the neutrals, are allowed three or fewer touches to pass and receive the ball. Teams reverse roles immediately upon change of possession, constantly switching from attack to defense and vice versa.
Scoring: Eight consecutive passes without losing possession earns 1 point. The team scoring the most points wins.
Practice tips: Emphasize basic principles of team play The team in possession should stretch the field vertically and horizontally to create greater space and more time in which to receive and pass the ball. Defending players should work together to pressure the ball and compact the available space around the ball.
