Football Training Fancy Footwork Pass Skills

Minutes: 18 minutes (9 segments of 2 minutes each)
Players: Groups of 3
Objectives: To make accurate one-touch passes; to develop precise checking runs; to improve fitness.
Setup: Players 1 and 2 position in single file about a yard apart. Player 3, with a ball, faces players 1 and 2 at a distance of 10 yards.
Procedure: Player 1 is the resting player for the first two-minute segment; player 2 is the working player; player 3 is the server. The exercise begins with player 2 sprinting forward past player 1. Player 3 passes the bail to player 2, who returns it with a one-touch pass. Player 2 immediately backpedals to his or her original position behind player 1, then sprints forward past player 1 (on the opposite side) to play a one-touch pass with the opposite foot. Player 2 continues the passing sequence, alternating passes with the right and left foot, at maximum speed for two minutes. All passes are made with the inside of the foot. After two minutes players rotate positions and repeat. Each player takes a total of three turns as the " working" player.
Scoring: Players complete as many one-touch passes as they can in two minutes.
Practice tips: Vary the type of pass (one-touch, two-touch, outside of the foot, and so on). Emphasize hard-checking runs toward the server and firm, crisp return passes.
